We are working with the client to grow their investment originations team and are seeking to fill Managing Director and Director roles in their New York (Manhattan) office.
Summary:
The ideal candidates will be experienced professionals in originations and investments, specifically within venture lending and venture capital. Applicants should have well-established networks and strong relationships within the venture capital and growth equity communities, as well as connections with startup executives.
These networks should span various sectors, particularly technology and life sciences, including industries such as software, fintech, health tech, consumer products, and life sciences. A solid understanding of these industries and the ability to leverage connections to identify and evaluate potential investment opportunities are critical for success.
This role primarily focuses on sourcing and identifying new investment opportunities by building relationships with venture capitalists, startup executives, entrepreneurs, and other stakeholders in the venture and startup ecosystem.
Key Responsibilities:
- Sourcing Investments: Build and maintain strong relationships with venture capitalists and other key players in the startup community to proactively identify promising investment opportunities.
- Negotiating Debt Financing Transactions: Negotiate terms and conditions for debt financing transactions with both new and existing portfolio companies.
- Due Diligence and Underwriting: Conduct thorough due diligence by analyzing financial statements, assessing business models, and evaluating market potential.
- Credit/Investment Committee Presentations: Prepare and deliver detailed presentations to the Credit Committee, outlining the risks and benefits of each potential transaction.
- Portfolio Management: Monitor and manage portfolio company investments post-transaction to ensure performance aligns with expectations.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in finance, business, or a related field; MBA or equivalent advanced degree is preferred.
- Minimum of 6-10 years of experience in venture debt, venture capital, private credit, investment banking, or a related field, with a proven track record in deal origination.
- Demonstrated ability to meet or exceed business development targets and make effective decisions in fast-paced environments.
- A strong history of sourcing and closing deals.
