A leading payment instituion in Amsterdam is seeking a head of regulatory affairs in Amsterdam, to assist with the licensing across the EU. They are seeking a seasoned professional within the EU/UK financial regulatory domain who is able to lead and scale their Regulatory Licensing and Affairs Team. In this role, the candidate will be part of the Global Regulatory Leadership Team and in that capacity, responsible for determining their regulatory strategy for the EMEA Region and designing the subsequent frameworks around this strategy. The candidate will lead a team of regulatory counsels across the region who are supporting them to create unique business opportunities while making ethical choices.
The Role:
- Develop a thorough understanding of their organization and Regulatory Function and leverage that understanding to identify the key focus areas to refine their regulatory strategy.
- Own their regulatory affairs strategy and design frameworks to scale their regulatory function.
- Empower team members by exposing them to a wide range of topics and provide them with trust and freedom to take decisions and ownership.
- Lead strategic regulatory engagements (both internally and externally) including managing relationships with prudential and conduct regulators and supervisors.
- Provide strategic regulatory advice towards senior stakeholders, both internal and external, in line with their commercial and strategic objectives which allow for scale.
- Represent the regulatory function within a variety of workstreams and products to establish regulatory strategies that align with global objectives and ensure controlled and balanced growth.
The Candidate:
- You have 10+ years' experience, at least 5+ in a senior leadership position in a regulatory and/or legal function, focused on payments, financial services and/or fintech industry.
- You have extensive knowledge of the UK/European payments, financial services and/or fintech industry.
- You have a proven track record of being a strong leader of senior individual contributors and are able to develop a high performing team.
- You are comfortable navigating complexity and ambiguity, always striving to clarify while adapting swiftly as needed.
- You are a driver, with a strong sense of initiative, ownership, and independence enabling you to contribute to a fast-growing business.
- You have excellent communication, people, and relationship-building skills that allow you to influence, challenge, and collaborate with senior stakeholders, both internal and with prudential and conduct regulators and supervisors.
- You have excellent legal writing and drafting skills, allowing you to position them most favorably when navigating through complex regulatory challenges.
- You are fluent in English and full proficiency in French and/or German is a plus.
