Position Overview
The Director of Investments will play a key role in driving the firm's investment strategy and portfolio management efforts. This position offers the opportunity to lead complex investment opportunities in the lower middle market, overseeing the entire investment cycle from deal sourcing and evaluation to execution and post-investment value creation. The ideal candidate will bring a strategic mindset, strong financial acumen, and a track record of sourcing, underwriting, and managing investments in businesses with growth potential.
Key Responsibilities
Investment Sourcing & Deal Origination:
Proactively identify and originate investment opportunities in the lower middle-market across various industries. Leverage your network and relationships to generate proprietary deal flow and engage with business owners, intermediaries, and other deal sources.Deal Evaluation & Due Diligence:
Lead the due diligence process on potential investments, including financial analysis, market research, management assessments, and operational evaluations. Coordinate with internal teams and external advisors to assess risks, growth potential, and value creation opportunities.Financial Modeling & Analysis:
Build and review financial models (LBO, merger models, and valuation models) to assess investment return profiles, capital structure, and strategic fit with the firm's portfolio.Investment Committee Presentations:
Prepare and present investment recommendations to the Investment Committee, highlighting key findings, risks, and opportunities for each deal.Portfolio Management & Value Creation:
Work closely with portfolio company management teams to identify and execute on value creation initiatives. Monitor financial performance and operational metrics, and provide strategic guidance to drive growth and profitability.Post-Investment Strategy & Monitoring:
Support portfolio companies in implementing operational improvements, cost control measures, and strategic growth initiatives. Monitor the performance of investments, track milestones, and ensure alignment with the firm's exit strategy.Team Leadership & Mentorship:
Manage and mentor junior investment professionals, providing guidance on deal execution, financial modeling, and professional development. Foster a collaborative and high-performance culture within the team.External Relationship Building:
Build and maintain strong relationships with external stakeholders, including bankers, lawyers, consultants, and co-investors. Represent the firm at industry events and maintain a strong presence in relevant networks.
Experience:
- Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in private equity, investment banking, management consulting, or a related field with a focus on the lower middle market.
- Proven track record of sourcing, executing, and managing investments, including operational oversight and post-investment management.
- Strong understanding of financial modeling, valuation techniques, and investment analysis.
- Experience in a broad range of industries or a demonstrated ability to quickly evaluate new industries.
